DAY 5 OF 7

You Never Let Me Go

Life is hard. The question many of us wrestle with isn’t if  we’ll go through a personal hardship, but when. At any moment, we could find ourselves experiencing some really tough times. And when we’re in that pit of despair, the most common question we ask is, “Where did God go?”

If this is what you’re feeling, allow the lyrics of You Never Let Me Go to encourage you:

I never knew
A love so faithful
I never knew
Love could be this true
‘Cause every time
My life falls into pieces
You’re the One
Who always sees me through

There’s a story in Genesis about a young man named Joseph. His entire family was blessed by God. Because of that, Joseph would’ve expected that he’d live a good life. Yet, in a tragic turn of events, he was betrayed by his brothers, thrown into a pit, sold into slavery, and wrongfully sentenced to prison.

Reading this story, we might assume that God was angry with Joseph. We might even think that God abandoned Joseph. We often do this in our own lives as well. When things get hard or don’t go as planned, we wonder where God went.

But, God often uses hard times to strengthen our faith and reveal His plan. That’s exactly what happened in Joseph’s life. We expect that Joseph would have felt alone, but Genesis 39:21 says, “...the Lord was with him…” God hadn’t abandoned him! God was with Joseph in the pit, while he was enslaved, and when he was imprisoned.

Through the hard years and trials, God blessed Joseph’s life beyond what he would have thought possible. Eventually, Joseph went from the pit to the prison to the palace and was in charge of the country of Egypt—second only to Pharoah. God used the hardships in Joseph’s life to ultimately bless him and his family members. Through every difficulty, God never let him go. Rest in the truth from the lyrics of this song:

Every time that I call
You answer in prayer
You’re holding onto me
You never let me go
You never let me go

Life won’t always be pleasant. Sometimes, things will get harder before they get better. But, no matter what you’ve walked through or what will cross your path in the future, you can trust that God will never let you go.

About this Plan

City of Grace

This Bible plan was written to express the heart behind Central Live’s new EP, City of Grace. The lyrics of the songs are an anthem of God’s abounding grace and deeply rooted in who Central Church is. In this 7-day plan, the team members share insight and Biblical truth behind each song and how God is changing their city into a City of Grace.
