How To Live With Your FamilySample
God and Your Parents
God gives us our families, our parents, and our siblings to show us an example of what our relationship with Him is like and who He is to us. We all want parents who love us and care for us no matter what happens. Well, that’s who God is. He loves and cares about us more deeply than we can imagine.
Our parents try to provide for our needs. God already provided what we need. Our parents help grow us and shape us into who we’ll become. God grows us and matures us.
But here’s where we have to be careful. We all have different types of parents, and while our parents an example of God—they aren’t God. God is so much bigger than any relationship we have on this earth. There is nothing that compares. God will never let us down, hurt us, abandon us, or make mistakes. And we humans all make mistakes. We mess up (even our parents).
So while our parents can be great examples and reflections of who God is, we have to be careful not to make God someone He’s not. While your parents may have bad days and can be short with you, God doesn’t have bad days. Sometimes your parents will discipline you in hurtful ways. God will never hurt you. God is perfect, and His love is unfailing.
You are God’s. You belong to Him. He loves you and cares for you, and you are His child.
God gave you your parents to be an example of our relationship with Him. We can learn a lot about who God is through our relationship with our parents. But remember: God isn’t your parents. And your parents, well, they aren’t God.
