Read the Book: Fall Bible Plan

DAY 21 OF 103

Restoration

Luke 7

In Luke 7, we read of Jesus having a meal at the home of a Pharisee. A woman known in the city to be a sinner finds Jesus there and weeps at His feet, wetting them with her tears. She wipes the tears with her hair, kisses His feet, and anoints them with precious ointment. When the Pharisee questions Jesus as to why He would let such a woman touch Him, the Pharisee is rebuked.

Jesus says in verse 47, “Therefore I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven—for she loved much. But he who is forgiven little, loves little.”

Can you imagine what a mess this woman must have looked like, coming into someone’s home uninvited, sobbing, kissing Christ’s feet? She may not have even been coherent in speech, yet she poured out her soul to her Lord because she knew the depths of her wickedness and that Jesus was her only hope to be saved.

Sometimes we think real Christians should always look put together. But the truth is, life is messy. We are broken, shattered people who daily need the grace and forgiveness of God. Jesus wants our courageous vulnerability, whether that is a quick, heartfelt prayer or it's crying out to God on our knees for Him to move mightily in our lives. The next time you see someone being courageously vulnerable, open your heart and ask how Jesus would have you respond. Let it be said of you that you loved much because you have been forgiven much.

Dear Jesus, may we never be afraid to be genuine with You about our hurts and struggles. Amen.

Family connection: Ask your family this week, “If you could meet Jesus anywhere, where would you meet Him? What would you do and say?” After discussing this, remind them that we can come to Jesus ANY time, just as we are. Jesus wants us to come to Him!
