Soul Rest for the Tired and WearySample
Present to Peace
Scripture: Psalm 23:6 AMP
Rest allows us to follow God—where He is leading. When we follow God to green pastures and still waters, we lay down. In this place of reflection, awe, and wonder, we learn the delicate rhythms of how God leads, refreshes, restores, and sets us on His right paths, for the glory of His namesake.
Rest always keeps us on God’s best path, whereas striving strays us toward our own. In rest, we learn to follow the Prince of Peace, rather than the prince of this world, who seeks to confuse us with lesser callings, exploits, and hard work that will only leave us burned out and exhausted.
In God’s rest, we see clearly what our heart really wants, needs, and desires. In rest, we shed lesser weights—the weight of what others think and our fear of failure.
Because we follow the Prince of Peace, we walk in paths of peace. Here, “goodness and mercy and unfailing love shall follow” us all the days of our life. This means we leave a wake of God’s goodness behind us. As we look back on our life, we will see what beauty God left behind us as we trusted Him.
At day’s end, isn’t this the kind of life we all want to have led?
To dwell in the presence of the Lord is to understand His goodness and unfailing love. It is to find our ultimate security in Christ. Even more, His presence becomes a tangible outflow from all we think, do, and say. We are renewed in Him—not conformed to the world—and because of this, we are transformed.
Because of rest, we learn to wholeheartedly rest in the fact that we are eternally loved forever. We know nothing will separate us from His love. We rejoice in the idea that we will live in God’s house forever.
We shall not want because we want Him. Above all, He is our greatest pursuit and the sum of all our real desires.
Rest takes us to places of ultimate peace. Where we know we have a forever home with the one we love the very most. And, we will be with him FOREVER! This is amazingly soul-filling. All of God belongs to all of us. We can’t help but bubble over with the joy, peace and hope that can only come from rest.
What sort of rest is God calling you into? What would this practically look like in your life?
