I AM: Jesus in His Own WordsSample
I AM…The Resurrection and the Life
The fifth of seven self-descriptions occurs in one of the most stirring passages in all of the Bible—the death and resurrection of Jesus’ dear friend Lazarus. In this passage, Jesus calls himself “the resurrection and the life.” Before Jesus raises Lazarus, he tells his sister, Martha, what he will do. She confesses that she believes in the future resurrection, where Lazarus will join all the righteous. Jesus gently corrects her with this simple pronouncement and the miracle that would follow. While resurrection truly is a future hope for all who are redeemed, Jesus proves that the future has invaded the present in himself.

About this Plan
Who did Jesus say he was? Seven times in the Gospel of John, Jesus declares “I AM,” and tells us his true identity. I AM…the bread of life…the light of the world…the gate for the sheep…the good shepherd…the resurrection and the life…the way, the truth and the life…the true vine. Content is adapted from Louie Giglio’s The Jesus Bible, encouraging you to encounter the living Jesus in all of Scripture.
