God Who Undertakes For Our Failures
It seems as though the situation with Laban was only a curtain raiser. The real threat for Jacob was now approaching him. The relationship with Esau was far different from the relationship that Jacob had had with Laban. Laban had deceived Jacob on many occasions, but here, it was Jacob who had deceived Esau.
God had rescued Jacob from Laban, but from a rational perspective why would God rescue Jacob from Esau? It was Jacob who was at fault in the relationship with Esau, wasn't it? Therefore, logically, Jacob would have to face the consequences of his deception. Jacob had probably concluded, “God will not rescue me now. God has been merciful to me in my relationship with Laban but the matter with Esau is another story. I will have to face the wrath of Esau”
So, Jacob is now responding out of great fear and dread of Esau. He is sending different gifts to Esau and he is hoping that these gifts will appease Esau.
Isn’t this is an experience that we go through? We feel that our present crisis is our own creation. How and why will God help me in this situation? We then go about finding our own solutions to the problem or we look for worldly advice and help. This is where our Lord is pleading for us to run to Him and cast all our cares on Him.
Will you turn and cast all your worries, whatever it may be, into the hands of the Lord, who loves you?
Lord, I cast my brokenness and failures at Your feet please have mercy on me.
