Rooted In His Word

DAY 18 OF 30

The Lord God of heaven and earth has a problem. He has positions to fill in the administration of His Kingdom, but the supply of job applicants is slim. There is an overabundance of need for what the Kingdom has to offer people, but the supply of prospective employees who can inform people of its benefits is simply not enough. Jesus was aware of the problem. He described it in this way: “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few” (Luke 10:2).

So God does what we all do when we have something we need. He asks around about it. He doesn’t just ponder the problem in His own mind, but He lets it be known in the heavenly counsel that there is a need that has to be taken care of, that there is a problem that can no longer be set aside or avoided. Maybe an angel has the inside track on someone that could fit the bill. Surely one of the archangels
personally knows someone who could do the job.

In order to make certain that everyone in the heavenly counsel knows precisely what it is He is looking for, the Lord spells it out. He is specifically looking for a messenger. There must be somebody out there, because the qualifications for the job are not that rigorous. Mostly, the person just has to be willing to do the job. After all, how difficult is it to deliver a message? Experience, as a result, is not really a factor either.

Like Isaiah, you may have overheard God asking around. The thing is, if you are allowed to overhear a question like this, then you are the one being asked. The question is not a question in general, but a question specifically directed to you.

“Will you be a messenger to this people?”

Like Isaiah, you should apply for this job. If the Lord specifically asks for someone, “no” is not really a viable option. Who is foolish enough to turn down God? That is something you would regret for the rest of your life.

If you have overheard the Lord speaking in the heavenly realm, then today may be the day to say what Isiah said: “Here I am. Send me.”
