WATCH AND PRAY
Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (Mark 14:38)
Jesus gave very true advice to His disciples, ”Watch and pray, so you will not fall into temptation.” Falling asleep while waiting for Jesus as He prayed in the garden of Gethsemane, while facing His suffering and death, was the worst thing the disciples did. Not only that, the disciples even ran away when the Roman soldiers caught Jesus, leaving Him to face them alone.
“The spirit is willing”. We know that we have to watch, be on our guard, and need to pray; but sometimes we fail to do it. For this reason, Jesus gave this advice to His disciples, “Watch and pray, because spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
Many times, we determine to keep our faith strong, especially during trials and in difficult situations we face. But the fact is, our flesh is weak, and if we do not keep watching and praying continuously, we will be easily defeated and lose our faith.
Man can only face trials, sufferings, and other testing of faith by leaning on God; the bigger the trial we face, the stronger we hold onto God.
Having a lot of knowledge of the truth is not sufficient for us to conquer our flesh; we have to train and conquer our fleshly desire until Truth becomes part of our life. Only by relying on God will we be able to deny ourselves and keep trusting in Him with obedience.
GOD gives awesome rewards to those who rely on Him, more than anything else, in faithfulness.
