What If Christianity Isn't What You Think?Sample
People Aren’t Who You Think
I always thought this verse was so strange. I remember growing up and wondering, “why is everything perfect except for that one tree? If God didn’t want them to touch it then why did He put it there in the first place?”
But I think a lot of times we miss the point of what God was doing with that command. It’s not an arbitrary command but actually an invitation to intimacy. It all comes down to the name of the tree. When they eat of the tree it says in and of themselves they will get the knowledge of good and evil. So, if they obey and don’t eat the tree, then how on earth will they know what’s right and wrong?
It seems God is giving them a cosmic choice that He is still giving us to this day. We can either say “i can do it on my own and I can know what’s right or wrong. I don’t need help.” Or we can lean in on God every second of every day and be guided by Him for what’s right and wrong. See it was actually God giving them an invitation to His heart. An invitation to be closer. An invitation to intimacy.
And that’s where joy is at. That’s where love is at. That’s where being fully known, which is what so many of us long for, is at. When we lean into our Creator instead of ourselves for what’s right and wrong and where we should go. But the hard part is that requires vulnerability. That requires being seen for who we truly are. But in that vulnerability true joy can be found.
Do you lean on God for direction in life or do you keep eating the fruit our first parents did?
