RELATIONSHIPS
Have you ever experienced a representation or display of someone or something that doesn’t do justice to the subject? Maybe it was a misrepresentation of someone's true character, the true preciousness of something being undervalued, or the level of satisfaction from something being completely overrated. Our culture is hung up on the display and representation of something, whether that be of oneself, a company/brand… We love to see things represented and displayed the way they ought to be. As a person, you are a representation and display of something far greater than yourself or a brand or company. We all are a display of God’s Glory; therefore, we should do our best to represent and display God the best we can.
To take it a little deeper, the Romantic relationships we have are even more so a display of something much greater than ourselves and our partner. God’s design for a romantic relationship is to end up in a covenant relationship, being in a marriage, that displays the love of God through Jesus Christ and His covenant relationship with the Church.
In Hebrews 12:14 God specifically calls his people to “Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness, no one will see the Lord.” We have a responsibility to display Christ.
Any perversion of Marriage doesn’t display Jesus the way he ought to be displayed. Sex was designed for the covenant relationship between a man and a woman, therefore those participating in sexual immorality find nothing precious, valuable, or satisfying about the meaning of marriage. The Hook-Up culture of today is the very thing that is destroying the ultimate representation of God’s love, grace, and mercy in Jesus Christ. Sexual Immorality is not just disobedience to God but the underrating of God's design for marriage, the cheapening of grace and the undervaluing of Christ.
Our culture prides itself on representing something as it ought to be. If Christ is so precious to us, shouldn’t we be representing Him the way that God designed through relationships?
“Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.”
