Work As Worship: True SuccessSample
You don’t have to look too hard to find someone willing to show you how to scam the system or advise you on how to get ahead.
Advice like: “Everyone else is doing it,” “No one cares,” “We get paid pennies so this is the reward for our hard work,” and “If you want to succeed, you have to look after number one” are commonplace in our world.
But is this “wisdom” worth the cost?
You slip some left-over product into your bag, and for the next two weeks, your heart beats faster whenever your supervisor is around.
You casually tell a co-worker what another co-worker said about her. Now every time the three of you are scheduled for a shift, you know it will be a nightmare.
This kind of wisdom might get you a promotion or some extra money, but no one talks about the guilt and chaos, about having to always look over your shoulder in case someone does to you what you have done to someone else.
So what wisdom should you follow?
The Bible is very clear. If you are loving, it is because you are connected to God, who is the very definition of love. If you care about the outcast or your heart is broken by injustice, it is because God’s nature flows through you.
When you abide in Christ, the Bible declares that you will bear fruit that marks you as his disciple. Your words, your actions, your very nature, will reflect the character of God and will bring him glory in your circumstances and relationships.
Don’t mistake abiding in Christ as being passive, like a leisurely Sunday spent resting in a hammock. The reality of being connected to Christ is much more transformational and exhilarating.
God is ready to move through you to change the world.
· What is an example of earthly wisdom you’ve heard? What wisdom does God have about the same topic?
· Take a moment to respond to God’s invitation to abide in him. What is a tangible way you can incorporate this connection to God into your daily life?
