There's Hope For TodaySample
TAMBOV, RUSSIA: The biology teacher offered a cynical smile as I finished my presentation of the Book of Hope.
“This is, of course, very interesting to us,” she said in a voice dripping with sarcasm. She reached for a plastic model of the human brain and held it up for the class to see. “Perhaps you can understand our problem,” she said, pointing to the model. “Can you tell us how you can find any room for God here? We can examine the brain, and God is not there.” Her utter contempt was breathtaking.
Before I could respond, my interpreter was chattering away. I didn’t know what she was saying, but the response of the class and the sudden indignation on the face of the teacher told me that the tide had turned. In the hallway I asked what she had said. “I asked the wise teacher if she could tell the students where to find love in that brain, though we were all certain that love is real,” she said. I couldn’t have answered better than that.
Though we may be far removed from that cynical teacher, we too tend to trust only in things that we can see. Although God is at work in His creation and revealed to our five senses, His greatest revelations come only by faith to the spirit of man.
