There's Hope For Today

DAY 227 OF 366

Many years ago, I bought a little four-wheel drive wagon – the one pitched by the Australian guy with a crocodile smile.

I liked its sturdy look. Few men can resist four-wheel drive. Add the masculine image of our Australian friend and the sale was complete. I found a used one at a good price and blazed down the road feeling rugged and manly. All I needed was a tan and a sweat-stained hat.

I took notice of every similar model I met. To my dismay, the overwhelming majority of my sister vehicles were driven by ... sisters. It seems that women really like the leather-skinned Australian bloke with the sweat-stained crocodile hat. I searched in vain for men behind the wheel.

I suddenly felt like I was driving one of those pink Mary Kay cars. I thought that the car appealed to manly men, but it was really targeted at soccer moms.

It’s not the first time I’ve acted without considering all the angles. Sometimes the cost of a hasty decision runs a lot higher than a car payment. God has given us the ability to reason, the availability of mature counsel, and an ever-open audience at heaven’s throne.

Employ all three when making long-term decisions, or build a bigger garage for your regrets.
