There's Hope For Today

DAY 148 OF 366

Building a family is the greatest building project of all. Sticks, bricks, steel, glass, and concrete are all child’s play when compared to the complex nature of molding and shaping a child.

God is the Master Builder, but He has entrusted fathers with a lot of the “rough-in” work. Builder dads need to use high quality oil. Oil represents gentleness, kindness, and patience. Don’t settle for a pint, you’re going to need a barrel, especially if you have daughters. Dads are naturally equipped to apply muscle and pressure, but that manly strength can sheer off vital connections. Some dads have gummed up the works with the best of intentions. A little bit of oil in preparation and maintenance lowers the muscle quotient and keeps us from doing long-term damage. Oil can do what brute force can’t!

Most dads don’t need bigger hammers or tighter grips – just more oil. Raising children requires that we take them apart, clean them up, and apply some fine-tuning from time to time. Don’t try to take them apart without plenty of oil. You’ll never get them back together. Before you try to give your kid a big adjustment, make sure you apply the oil of gentleness and moderation.
