“So let us know, let us press on to know the LORD. His going forth is as certain as the dawn; And He will come to us like the rain, Like the spring rain watering the earth” (Hos. 6:3).
Rain has so many good consequences. The trees and grass are watered and become stronger. The rain provides what the trees need to bud vibrant, green leaves in the spring; and with time, their fruit can be seen. The rain cleans the streets and washes away the dirt. The spring rain makes everything smell better and look better, too.
God promises to do the same for us. He promises to take our life’s dirt, sweat, refuse, pain, and hurt and cleanse them. The cross is the first place of washing for us. As we come to the cross through grace, we are justified as His forever. When God sees us, He sees us hidden in Christ. But He continues the growing process; and as we press in to Him, He comes to us and does a work no one else can. He does a transforming work, cleansing us layer by layer from those things that keep us stumbling in the dark. We no longer are like trees that have green leaves but no fruit. He makes us fruitful, just like the spring rain supports a fruit tree producing fruit.
He takes our emotional baggage and handles it for us. No longer is our emotional baggage zapping us of energy and strength. We become restored and renewed. And what about the wasted years? The Lord will “make up to you for the years that the swarming locust has eaten” (Joel 2:25). He heals in such a way that even those years of defeat become meaningful and used of Him.
As we press into Him, His Word will happen to us. Since His Word is alive and active, we will experience life-change. Scripture also tells us we become “a fragrance of Christ” to those other believers around us (2 Cor. 2:15). We become refreshed, restored, and renewed.
Come let us press on to know the Lord!
