Live Free: A Study of Galatians

DAY 2 OF 18

As we learned yesterday, we are designed to yearn for freedom. And yet, all too often we get off course and distracted by the allure of temporal attractions on the journey towards freedom. Pastor Pierre recently pointed out that if a plane is off from its intended flight path by just one degree, after 60 miles it would will be a full mile off course. On a cross country flight, this seemingly small misalignment can place a traveler literally 50 miles or more away from the intended destination. Alignment matters.

In today’s passage, Paul begins the body of his letter to the Galatians with a convicting declaration of the preeminence of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He is clearly shocked that his readers don’t seem to be aware of the devastating affects of being misaligned as they “are turning to a different gospel” (Galatians 1:6). He goes on to say there is no other gospel. There is no other way to live free. It is only through following Jesus that we find the freedom we long for.

As you read today’s verses, consider your own journey. Are you willing to follow Jesus completely? Will you accept the gospel fully as the foundation and direction for your life? Although this may sound extreme, it is the only way to truly live free

Reflect:

Is there anything in your life that you have allowed to compete with the gospel of Jesus?

Respond:

Pray and ask God to give you strength to remove anything that "distorts the gospel of Christ" in your life, so that you can live freely as you follow Jesus.
