12 Days of Healthy ChristmasSample
“The Humble Seek”
For most of us in the overweight community, our self-worth and self-perception is part of our battle with overeating. How many times have I watched one of the chef shows and heard them mention “comfort” food? Yep, that describes how I used to eat—for comfort. I still sometimes do.
In my reading of the Christmas account, I always saw myself as one of the shepherds and can’t ever remember seeing myself as one of the wise men. Most of us relate to the shepherds and their lot in life; not to the wise men.
These humble shepherds sought to go and see the baby Jesus. They were not disappointed. They in fact found the baby in the manger with both Mary and Joseph, validating the angel’s message to them. The lives of the shepherds were changed. Even now, when we come to Jesus, our lives are transformed.
How is it that I’ve come to believe that the shepherd’s lives were changed? When they left the scene, they began to share and it says that all who heard were astonished. Why would this be? In a day and age when their testimony would not be acceptable in legal proceedings, people who heard them were astonished. The message was transformational and these messengers were sincere and passionate.
This is part of the cycle of Christmas. During the Christmas season, we get excited, have fun and celebrate with friends, family, and our community at large. When the season is over, we return to the mundane, and for those of us who understand the true meaning of the season, we have a story to tell about the true Christmas that changed our hearts and lives.
Our health journey plays an important part in the transformation of our lives. We can be more effective in God’s kingdom by living a spiritually, emotionally, and physically healthy life. Living in this way demonstrates the true meaning of Christmas, because when we are healthy, we have more energy to give to others.
Health Tip: Healthy Christmas cycle = healthy celebration with good food, friends, and fun!
