Looking for Jesus

DAY 2 OF 5

Looking for Jesus

by Bryan Craig

DAY TWO

Scripture:  (John 4:4-26) Excerpts:

“When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, ‘Will you give me a drink?’…The Samaritan woman said to Him, ‘You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?’ (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.)
Jesus answered her, ‘If you knew the gift of God and Who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked Him and He would have given you living water.’
The woman said to Him, ‘Sir, give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water.’ He told her, ‘Go, call your husband and come back.’ ‘I have no husband,’ she replied.  Jesus said to her, ‘You are right when you say you have no husband. The fact is, you have had five husbands and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have said is quite true.’ ‘Sir,’ the woman said, ‘I can see that you are a prophet.’
Jesus declared…’A time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and His worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.’
The woman said, ‘I know that Messiah’ (called Christ) ‘is coming.  When He comes, He will explain everything to us.’ Then Jesus declared, ‘I Who speak to you am He.'”

Thought:  Jesus was always teaching so much every time He had an encounter with someone. First of all, He came to a Samaritan Woman, who was off-limits culturally for a male Jew. Jesus does not care- He comes for All. He wants to give her eternal life.  He wants to give her Himself. However, first, He exposes her sin.  He also talks about worshiping the Lord in spirit and in truth.

Living in Sin is living a lie and keeps us from Jesus. He says true worshipers live in the Truth, and these are the ones who have His Spirit to help them worship.

As this woman began to come face to face with her sin and with the truth of the Spirit, Jesus was revealed to her.

Application:  If we feel like we can’t see Jesus, if He seems far away or out of sight, perhaps we have some sin we need to confront and confess. If we examine our lives and don’t see any overt sin, we must consider whether we are true worshipers by Jesus’ definition.

Are we worshiping the Father in Spirit and in truth? Are we living sacrifices like it mentions in Romans 12, which proves that we are worshipers? Are we allowing The Spirit to have His way with us?

Let’s write our thoughts in our journals.

Response:  If Jesus was standing right in front of us, what would He say to us?  Write it down in our journals.

Let’s write a prayer to Jesus, confessing our sin, worshiping him, rededicating our lives to Him.

About this Plan

Looking for Jesus

From the beginning of time, man has been looking for a Savior. When Jesus, the One, came to earth, so many who were looking for Him could not find Him. Perhaps you are looking for Jesus, for a Savior, for validity for your Faith. He is closer than you think.
