It Comes Down To A Choice

I love this verse so much because it has my name written all over it. Just as Paul wrote in Romans 7: 15-20, "For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate." As a believer, I should now know what I shouldn't be doing, but I seem to still gravitate toward those things. While I do not lose my salvation, it does cause me to stumble.

This verse still rings true in a society that is built on instant gratification, access to information, attention seekers, and self-centeredness. 

I choose to...

• Not spend time in the Word each day
• Look at pornography on my computer or phone
• Make excuses to why I can't help those in need
• Overspend and try to satisfy myself with objects
• Not to tithe to God
• Get into arguments on social media
• Pass judgment on people based on what I think of them

When I should be choosing to...

• Invest in my marriage and other relationships
• Look for ways to help and speak about Jesus to people
• Be a good steward with money
• Be a cheerful giver
• Speak with Truth and Grace whether in-person or online
• Focus on being more Christlike
• Pray for others

Just as it's impossible to keep the ten commandments, the list above looks just as unattainable. But there is a beauty in the struggle as it keeps us relying upon, trusting in, learning, and growing in Christ.

Wouldn't it be great if we could learn to understand the ramification of our choices before we make them? That may not be likely if we continue doing the same thing over and over. But the more time we spend with God in His Word and in prayer, the better choices we will make.
