The Daring DadSample
When I was younger, I was a server at a restaurant. I loved it. Serving people felt good, but the cash in my pocket at the end of the night was much better. Even now, I feel like I serve people all day. I serve the organization that I work for. I serve the people who I work with. I serve my neighbors. But when I get home, more often than not, I want to be served. I ask my five-year-old daughter to bring me the remote. I ask my wife to make me a drink. I view my home as a place to relax and to be served, more than to serve. I need to make a shift in my life. My family matters more to me than my work, coworkers and neighbors, but sometimes they get the worst of me.
Jesus modeled serving so well throughout Scripture. His first miracle was turning water into wine that was served at a wedding party. He served bread and fish to the 5000. Served the widow. Served the orphan. He served his disciples by washing their feet hours before his death. And he served us all by dying on the cross so we could have a restored relationship with God.
Do you serve your family? Do you offer to make dinner, go to the grocery story, vacuum the house, or put the kids to sleep? If you want to become more like Jesus, serve your family more often.
I DARE YOU to serve your family today. Make dinner. Clean the house. Help your kids with homework. Ask this question to your kids or your wife, “What can I do today to serve you?” Serve.
About this Plan
Being a dad is difficult. You have so much responsibility. So much to do. Many of us put being a dad on the back burner - until we find ourselves in a place we don't want to be. I dare you to be a great dad.
