DAY 2 OF 91

1 KINGS 12-14 - GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN

What do dominoes and our lives have in common? Single actions can topple everything over regardless of the time building them. We can build our lives around Godly wisdom with little compromise to Biblical truths, but can instantly be wiped away by a single misstep.

King David was a man after God’s own heart and yet because of compromise in his life he was not allowed to build God’s temple. One night of passion cost him his kingdom temporarily, the life of one of his sons, and his peace until he walked into eternity.

David’s son Solomon was given great wealth and wisdom beyond human understanding. He only had to remember to honor God with his whole being, lean not on his own understanding, and in all his ways acknowledge God. But what did he do? He honored the gods of his foreign wives and his kingdom was torn apart.

But here’s the good news: we can spend half our lives in rebellion to the Creator, and in an instant be redeemed. David and Solomon combined spent 80 years building a kingdom, but then Solomon’s son Rehoboam wiped it all out in a day with a selfish decision. Let’s remember that God doesn't forget His promises. He promises in Chapter 13 an heir from the house of David would reestablish the Kingdom. That heir is Jesus. We are reconciled regardless of the amount of time we spent building our little kingdoms.

God, let my every action be used to bring you glory.

Family Connection:  King Solomon was blessed with wisdom and riches but he made the mistake of honoring other gods. There is only one true God who created all things. Discuss as a family about ways you can show honor to the one true God.
