Fatherless On Father's Day

DAY 3 OF 3

Day 3 - Thrive Today and Every Day!

As a child and a teen, I used to hate Father's Day.  I remember the feelings of not having a dad on Father's Day.  It isn't an easy day for us, but we can overcome this day and any hard day that we might face!  We can begin thriving with our lives!

HOW DO WE THRIVE EVERY DAY?

1.  REMEMBER THAT LIFE IS SHORT!

We do not know how long we have to live on this earth.  James 4:14 says: "Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away."

Have you ever seen vapors that come up from hot coffee or soup?  They disappear quickly don't they?  Our lives are the same way in comparison to eternity they will disappear quickly!

In Psalm 90:12 it says "So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom."

This verse is telling us to plan the days of our lives out so that we can wisely live and serve God!  If we keep the mindset that our lives are short it will help us handle days like Father's Day better knowing that this is just another day that I can rest in God and serve Him.

2.  LIVE LIKE GOD MADE TODAY, PRAISE HIM & BE THANKFUL FOR IT, AND CHOOSE TO BE HAPPY!

It says in Psalm 118:24: "This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it."

Today you might be focused on Father's Day, but next week or next month other things will come up that will ruffle your feathers!  There will be hard days!

Regardless of what comes at you today or in the future choose to thrive!  Part of the definition of the word "thrive" from the Miriam Webster dictionary says "to grow vigorously...to progress toward or realize a goal despite or because of circumstances"

Thriving is a choice and according to this definition if we choose to thrive we will grow vigorously or powerfully progress toward a goal despite our circumstances!  Our goal as a Christian is to live for God no matter what and share Him with others!  If we focus and thrive on living for God each day our lives will be blessed!

We can either be defeated by days like Father's Day or we can wake up and say "today is the day which God made, I will be thankful, I will praise God, and I will live for Him!"

Today I want to encourage you to choose to thrive instead of just trying to survive.  When trying to survive you are just getting by but when you choose to thrive it will provide a much more fulfilling life and it will more easily help you to overcome days like Father's Day!

ACTION STEPS:

  1. Write a note to God about Father's Day and include what makes you struggle with the day.  Be honest!  Then pray to Him and ask Him to help you overcome your struggles with this day.
  2. Write a Father's Day note to someone that has helped you on your fatherless journey, even if it is to your mom!  Father's Day is a great time to reflect on all that others have done to help us!
  3. Write a note to God, thanking Him for ways He has Fathered you in the past and then pray and talk to Him about it!
  4. Pray and ask God to guide you on your future and to give you the goals that He wants you to have.  As God guides you to your goals, and His will for your life, begin to write them down and start praying about them.
