The Hope Quotient

DAY 3 OF 60

With the smallest increase in hope, anything is possible.

A few years ago, I met a leading psychologist who built his career working with troubled marriages. He turned warring spouses who had damaged their relationships for decades into healthy couples. I asked how he did it.

“I just try for 10 percent improvement,” he said. “When couples improve 10 percent, they get hope. And when someone gets hope, anything is possible.”

Amazing. When any struggling individual gets just a 10 percent boost in hope, almost anything becomes possible. At times, I’ve seen a 10 percent rise in hope transform horrendous situations into great ones.

Hope is the highest-octane fuel in the universe. You don’t need 50 percent more hope, or 40, or even 25 percent. Just 10 percent more hope can launch you into a new and better orbit.

Hope is the beginning of everything. When people become more hopeful:

  • about their health, they start to get in shape.
  • about breaking bad habits, they start winning the battles they lost before.
  • about their kids, they find new energy to invest in their kids.
  • in their marriages, they start making better decisions.
  • about their financial future, they develop patterns to build financial freedom.
  • connecting with God, it fuels actions that lead to spiritual vitality.

Hope is the most important factor. When you have hope, anything is possible. Any great thing that ever happens in your life, in your family, in your marriage, in your community, in your country, and in your world happens because someone achieved a higher hope level.

Think Up:

Do you believe hope is the most powerful force on earth?

What can you do to increase your hope by 10 percent? (Read on).
