Peru—The Cradle of the Incas
Peru is famous for its incredible history and impressive landscapes. It was the cradle of the Inca Empire, a civilization that left numerous cultural monuments, great palaces and temples, excellent roads, and sophisticated aqueducts.
From the year 1532 Peru was dominated by the Spaniards, and they took most of the wealth of the Inca Empire. In 1821, Peru gained independence.
The main attraction and pride of Peruvians is the legendary Inca city of Machu Picchu, a site of Inca ruins located in the Andes at 2,450 meters above sea level; its name means “old top.” In 2007, Machu Picchu was declared one of the new seven wonders of the world.
Peru has around thirty-two million inhabitants. It is divided into three regions: the arid coast, highland, and the jungle. Seventy-six percent of the population identifies with the Catholic religion, fourteen percent are Evangelical, five percent are atheist, and another almost five percent are agnostic.[1]
Just as Peru was oppressed for many years, we may find a similar situation in our personal lives. But in Christ we find freedom. We may find ourselves slaves to some sin, feeling overwhelmed, or feeling out of control due to our circumstances. God is there to meet us and rescue us. All we have to do is believe Him. That is why it is important to know Jesus. When you know Jesus, you know the truth. And when you know the truth, the truth will set you free (John 8:32). And when you acquire this freedom, you can then help others find freedom in Christ as well.
I encourage you to continue announcing the gospel where you are. Let us proclaim what Jesus proclaimed in Luke 4:18!

· Pray for the Venezuelan immigrant families who have come to Peru in search of better opportunities.
