DAY 8 OF 11

Justice For The Victim

God is concerned about the fatherless, widows, falsely accused and the foreigners. As a foreigner who has traveled and lived in different countries, I have been encouraged how God is concerned about this group of people. It reiterates the fact that God is concerned about everyone, even those who are looked down by society. Brings us to two courses of action. Like Christ, we should never look down on anyone. Secondly, we incur God's judgement when we deny the less privileged of their rights. It shows God's love and mercy to every human being.

In today's world, the institution of marriage has been distorted and damaged. It’s sad to see Christian households in the name of submitting to the husband, women go through emotional and mental abuse and torture. Some women lose their identity and confidence as they are belittled and hustled to do what the husband wants. Finding a balance in a marriage is difficult. To see that God takes care of the women is an encouragement for those going through a difficult time.

There are two schools of thought. Some women take it as the call of their lives and endure the torture even till death. They live a life trusting God and protecting their family that someday their spouse will understand the love of Christ. In other cases, the women leave their spouse as living with them is impossible. Now, we usually hear only one side of the story, I believe it is wrong for us to judge the right course of action. Still, the above passage gives us encouragement that God is concerned about the rights of a woman.

I have also come across men who have been tortured and harassed by their wives. This passage talks about receiving comfort or the consequence of her actions. So God covers justice for the men too. At the end of our life, every husband and wife will be responsible for their individual living to God. Remember, in all these, there are kids involved who are commanded to honor their father and mother. Let us choose to live lives that our children will be proud of and can respect both their parents, seeing Christ's love in their actions.

Thought for the day: Does my family see God through me?

Lord help me be a channel of your peace to those around me,  that they are comfortable in my presence.
