Lessons From the Land: The GospelsSample
When Jesus chose his first disciples he didn’t look for the richest, the most popular, or even the religious teachers of the time. Instead, he chose fishermen. Plain, uneducated, and likely a little smelly... fishermen. Why did he do this? It was likely because he knew their hearts and he knew they would be diligent workers in his kingdom. Jesus knew that he wouldn’t be around forever to do the teaching and leading himself and because of that, he chose people who would step up to the challenge after he was gone.
That same challenge of sowing the good news of the Gospel is still out there today and Jesus is still looking for hardworking people to roll up their sleeves and get to work. In addition, God is looking for those who are willing to leave everything behind and follow him, the same way the disciple did for Jesus. We might not be called to physically leave our homes or our families but if we’re doing God’s work we will be called to make sacrifices.
Today, we have to reflect inwardly. Are we up to the challenge of sharing the Gospel? Are we willing to make the hard choices to spread the good news just like those fishermen were?
