Go2020 Kids Action Steps: Pray! Love! Share!

DAY 2 OF 3

Challenge #2 – Love Like Jesus

How did Jesus love? In order to love like Jesus, we must be able to answer that question. He gave specific instructions to his disciples in John 13:34, 35.

In these verses Jesus commands us to love others the way He loves. When you do that it shows the world that you are Jesus’ disciple.

To love like Jesus means to put others first. Jesus wants you to love unconditionally. That means to love someone without expecting anything in return. Jesus also wants you to love sacrificially.  That means doing something for others that might cost you something like time or money. Remember the story Jesus told about the Good Samaritan? Take a few moments to read the story in Luke 10:25-37. Isn’t it interesting that the religious leaders walked right past the injured man, but a Samaritan, someone that many looked down upon, stopped to help him? What did the good Samaritan do? He changed his bandages, put him on his donkey, and took him to an Inn where he paid the innkeeper so he could recover. The good Samaritan loved the injured man sacrificially.

Jesus not only taught us how to love, He showed us. When He met people, He genuinely cared about them and showed them compassion. He didn’t care if they were rich or poor, young or old. He treated everyone the same and showed them God’s love. He healed the sick and the lame. (Matthew 8:5-10; Luke 8:40-42 and 49-56). He fed people when they were hungry (John 6:1-15) and He offered hope to those who were sad. (Mark 10:46-52)

The Bible tells us that Jesus gave the ultimate sacrifice when He died on the cross for our sins. He did it so we could have eternal life forever with Him. (John 3:16; John 10:10). He gave the greatest gift, His own life, for you and for me. See John 10:11 Jesus said there is no greater way to show you love someone than to be willing to die for them. Read John 15:13. Jesus loved you and me sacrificially.

There’s a chapter in the Bible sometimes called the Love Chapter. It is found in 1 Corinthians 13:1-7. When you read it, you will discover many things about love. Love doesn’t envy others or want things that don’t belong to you.  Love doesn’t say bad things about other people. Love doesn’t show off or act conceited. Love is never happy when bad things happen because true love is patient and kind.  It always protects, trusts, hopes and never ever gives up!

Do you think you could love like Jesus?

ACTION STEPS: Write down several ways you can show love to your family or friends, then do them.
