GO2020 | ENGAGE: May Week 2 - GOSample
May 15—God’s Hero: Jonah
Read
Jonah 3:1-5
Reflect
Today we have a reluctant hero—Jonah. The whole book of the prophet Jonah is a clear witness that God loves people and wants to save them from their sin. God also chooses to use people to communicate the message of his love to others. In the case of Jonah, he uses imperfect people to share that message! That is boldly demonstrated in the four chapters of the book. Jonah didn’t want to participate in God’s mission. There was even some “fishy” business! (Now you will want to read the book of Jonah.) Finally, Jonah obeyed God; the sinful people heard the message and repented (they changed their ways and turned to God). The city that was doomed for destruction was spared because of God’s mercy and Jonah’s obedience.
Engage
Read today’s Scripture passage. Say or write it out in your own words, considering the following questions:
· What does it say about God?
· What does it say about us?
· Is there a promise to trust?
· Is there a command to obey?
· How will I apply this Scripture to my life?
· Who will I show that I care by sharing this truth?
Memorize
Now read this week’s memory verse, Mark 1:15. Spend a few minutes working to memorize it.

About this Plan
Let's focus on heroes of the faith who model for us what it looks like to “go!” These heroes were ordinary folks like us. They had a burning message of hope for their generation. Some suffered; some struggled; some were young; some were older; but all of them shared the hope that God had given them.
