Purpose: A Plan for Kids

DAY 2 OF 4

Story

Growing up in my house, the job that I had was to take out the trash every Sunday night after dinner. I had to get it from all the bathrooms, bedrooms, kitchen, and wherever else the trash was hiding. This was my way of helping out around the house, even though it wasn’t always voluntary. And you know what? My parents loved it when I took the trash out before they even asked me to.

The Bible

“Don’t be like that. Instead, anyone who wants to be important among you must be your servant. And anyone who wants to be first must be your slave. Be like the Son of Man. He did not come to be served. Instead, he came to serve others. He came to give his life as the price for setting many people free.”—Matthew 20:26–28

Think

Jesus told His disciples that He did not come to be served by other people, but to serve them. What if we acted like that around our house this week? What if instead of only taking out the trash, I asked my parents if I could clear the dinner table as well? Jesus knew His ultimate purpose was to, “give his life as the price for setting many people free.” His purpose was to serve. Even though right now with the Coronavirus, you can’t take part in a lot of activities or events you like, you have the chance to start finding your purpose in God, by choosing to serve others like Jesus did!

Do Something

Today, ask your parents how you can serve them by helping around the house!

Pray

“Dear God, thank You that You sent Jesus to serve and not to be served. Help me to serve others just like Jesus served me, by giving His life to set me free. Amen!”
