Choosing Faith Over FearSample
Day 5: Spirit of Power
What if I told you that God has given you more than enough power to be able to literally slay the giants that stand in the way of your calling? It’s not that difficult to flip through the Scriptures and find multiple times where God’s spirit of power is on display. We read about the world being created, buildings being ripped down, demons being driven out, and Jesus beating death! One of my favorite passages is where God’s power is on display through David.
David’s triumphant victory over Goliath is a perfect picture of choosing faith over fear. If you don’t know the story, David, a mere shepherd boy who was also the baby brother in his family, is met with a fearful situation. He is put in a position where he stands toe-to-toe with an undefeated champion, a ruthless killer, and a literal giant. Instead of listening to the laughter from the Philistines, the doubt in his own head, and even the insults from his brother calling him “wicked at heart,” he chose to remember that he was called and anointed by God. Because of the spirit of power anointed to him by God, he overcame all odds, slew the giant, ripped off his head, and watched as the Philistine army ran away.
Here is the thing: giants still exist today. There are situations and people in our life who have come to destroy us and make us feel invaluable, unworthy, and uncalled. Our strength doesn’t come from our qualifications, past experiences, or accolades, but it comes from the Spirit of God. The world may want us to believe that we will never be good enough, but we know that with the spirit of power given to us by God, that even an unlikely servant can overcome the giant in their life.
Focus: Chances are there is a giant in your life. It’s the thing that stands in the way of a goal, a dream, or a passion that you feel you are being called into. Today, I want you to do the same thing that David did before he challenged the giant. He identified it. So, what is the giant in your life? Spend some time today praying for a spirit of power, identify the giant, and create a plan of attack. For you, that plan could be finding an accountability partner, maybe it’s joining a small group, or maybe it’s setting aside a time in the morning when your first plan of attack in the day starts with prayer and worship with your Creator.
