Courage in the StormSample
Jesus is Praying for You
In the book of Matthew, chapter 14, you find the amazing story of when Jesus walked on water. Jesus had just finished feeding 5,000 people and was leading the disciples to get into the boat as He dismissed the crowds. Once He dismissed the crowds, He chose not to go with the disciples, choosing instead to go up a mountain by Himself to pray. Well into the night, He was there alone.
The disciples were fishermen. They understood how to sail their boat. So they began to head out into the Sea of Galilee, which was known for storms. This area is a place that is 600 feet below sea level. The cool air would whoosh over the mountains and hills that are surrounding and create the pressure for great storms. Well, they did not know this, but Jesus was sending them out into a storm.
You may be wondering, “What kind of Savior sends people out to the storm? Isn’t He supposed to save me from the storm? Not send me into one!” Yes, you are right. He definitely is the one who not only rescued the disciples from a real storm but who will also rescue you from any metaphorical storm you are going through.
You see, while the disciples were on the boat experiencing a storm, Jesus was on the mountain praying. Jesus prays for you and me while we are experiencing trials. The main point I want you to understand here is that your Savior is praying for you. Trust His prayers even when you don’t sense His peace. I could have easily said, “When you don’t sense His presence,” but God’s presence does not come and go. God is always with you. The disciples on the boat did not sense His peace during the storm, yet Jesus was praying. We do not know exactly what He was praying about, but throughout the Scriptures, He tells us He prays for us.
In the book of John, Jesus says, “I am not praying just for these followers. I am also praying for everyone else who will have faith because of what my followers will say about me.”
Trust in His prayers even when you don’t see Him or feel His presence. You and I are going to go through times in our lives where we don’t sense God’s peace. We know that His peace passes all understanding, but you’re going to experience a storm that will have you doubting and questioning His peace. You may go through hardships that will make you feel like Jesus is not with you, but He is right there with you. He is on the mountainside praying. Be encouraged with the single thought that Jesus is praying for you today.
About this Plan
When you're going through a storm, Jesus can show up when you least expect it and do something you could never imagine. Rest and trust in knowing that His eye is on you and His prayers are for you.
