Quarantine Youth: ExileSample
Be Different
It’s easy to waste time in quarantine. Between Netflix, Minecraft, and Tik Tok, your days can slip by before you even realize they are gone. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if you’re already feeling bored with your phone. There aren’t enough apps in the App Store to satisfy your soul.
Following Jesus in quarantine can actually be more difficult than in your regular day-to-day. Your regular life has a structure, a time to get up in the morning, a schedule of classes and extra-curricula, and regular times to be in church. Right now, on quarantine, there is so much to distract you it has become easy to let the days pass without doing anything meaningful. I mean, do you even know what day of the week it is right now?
How do we quarantine well? How do we make this time count?
Daniel and his friends had to be intentional about their day-to-day if they were going to make it through exile without losing who God made them to be. They made a choice to be different. They weren’t going to allow Babylon to reshape them, they knew they had to do life differently if they were going to make it through exile.
And the same is true for us, we have to do life differently if we are going to make it through quarantine. Instead of just letting the days slip past you, make a plan for what you are going to do to grow during this time. Quarantine can be a gift, if we use it right. Set a schedule for yourself, determine when you are going to pray, when you are going to read your Bible, when you are going to go outside for a walk, when you are going to do your chores, and PLEASE set a limit to your screen time (I know, that last one is the hardest one, but it could be the most important).
Be different. Shape your time in quarantine, or your time in quarantine will shape you.

About this Plan
Having your life uprooted by a quarantine can be disorienting. In the Bible, we learn the story of Daniel, and a few of his friends. They were uprooted, and exiled to Babylon. We can learn a lot about what to do when we have been uprooted from them.
