Nothing Can Separate You from the Love of God

“For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” 

Romans is the summit of the Bible. Romans 8 is the summit of Romans. Romans 8:31-39 is the summit of Romans 8, and the summit of Romans 8:31-39 are these final two verses.

Words fail to convey God’s heart. Nothing can separate you from his love—nothing. Ten things are listed:

“Neither death nor life.” Nothing in death and nothing in life. Death holds no threat to us.

“Nor angels nor rulers.” Neither Satan nor all the demonic hordes can rob us of God’s love.

“Nor things present nor things to come.” Nothing in time—the present or the future. We need not fear the future.

“Nor powers.” There is no power, human or demonic, that can keep us from God.

“Nor height nor depth.” Nothing in space—from the highest heights to the deepest depths.

“Nor anything else in all creation.” He has already included everything—Satan, demons, people, you, everything. But just in case your mind tries to find wiggle room around this, God adds,

“Nor anything else in all creation.” That includes everything in the universe—except God.

Romans 8 begins with no condemnation and it ends with no separation. Such is the love of God that will not let you go. Never!

In The Knowledge of the Holy, A.W. Tozer wrote: 

The love of God is one of the great realities of the universe, a pillar upon which the hope of the world rests. But it is a personal, intimate thing, too. God does not love populations, he loves people. He loves not masses, but men. He loves us all with a mighty love that has no beginning and can have no end… To know that love is God and to enter into that secret place leaning upon the arm of the Beloved – this and only this can cast out fear. Let a man become convinced that nothing can harm him and instantly for him all fear goes out of the universe. God is love and God is sovereign. His love disposes him to desire our everlasting welfare and his sovereignty enables him to secure it. 

Rest in that love. Relax in that love. Revel in that love.
