Spiritual DisciplinesSample
Day 2 - Discipline of Study
The Bible is not a cake to be enjoyed occasionally! It is our daily bread!
Maybe you haven't had very nice experiences when you tried to study. Maybe you compared yourself with others that easily study the word and you gave up. But I urge you not to give up so easily! Give it another try!
The problem of our era is superficiality. It's like cancer. The idea of immediate gratification affects our spiritual life and growth. We want to become mature Christians overnight, we want to become giants of faith or people who know the Scriptures in great detail, and all overnight. You can’t have it just like this. It requires time. Well disciplined and well invested time.
Indeed, the Discipline of Study requires time, but we need to overcome superficiality in order to get to know the true beauty of a deep, spiritual life.
Some people study the Scriptures in order to show other people's mistakes. But that's not the scope! The Bible is like a two edged sword that comes into our lives and separates anything that is worldly from anything that is spiritual. It is not a weapon to use against each other!
The main purpose of studying is not doctrine purity, but inward change. We come to the Scriptures in order to be transformed, not just to accumulate information. The Scripture’s principles are the guidebook we need, the standard for everyone!
Please, listen to what the scripture urge you to do: be a doer of the Word, look deeply into the perfect Law, dwell in it! Give it another chance! Take it easy, with small steps!
