Finding Jesus In TechnologySample
Jesus is our autosave
I love Microsoft Word. It’s the program I use for my devotions and blogs and freelance work. There’s only one problem. It doesn’t have an autosave feature. It stresses me out to know that if I don’t remember to hit save every so often, all my work will be lost if the application freezes or my computer crashes.
While I don’t love Google Docs, I’ve come to appreciate its autosave feature. It’s so much more relaxing to know I can keep plugging away because all the saving is automatically done for me.
That’s how life is for Christians too. If we constantly think we have to earn our way into Heaven by doing good deeds—which is really just thinking that we have to do the saving ourselves—we’ll be constantly stressed out. What if our self-control crashes, our day goes wrong, we lose our tempers, or we relapse into addiction? Even if we think we’ve done good things, will they really be enough? How do we know?
That’s why we’re grateful for Jesus, who’s done all the saving for us. He “has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of His own purpose and grace” (2 Timothy 1:9).
Now we get to relax because Jesus is our autosave. Thanks to His grace, He’s got our salvation all taken care of. We can keep plugging away as we tell others about His salvation.
