Matthew 27:46 - "My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?”

As Jesus called out to The Father, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me” (Matthew 27:46), He fulfilled the prophetic statement of Psalm 22:1. "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, from the words of my groaning?"

Jesus, Who is fully God, yet, in His humanity while on earth expressed His sense of abandonment as God The Father placed the sins of the world, our sins, upon Him.

In this moment God “turned-away” from Jesus for the only time in eternity as He Who knew no sin, became sin on our behalf. (2 Corinthians 5:21)

While Jesus was fully God in the flesh while here on earth, what He communicated and experienced for a brief moment is what we experience outside of Christ which is - separation from God.

Jesus allowed Himself to be separated from God for that moment as He took on and bore our sins.

He took on and felt the weight of sin upon Him so that you and I may have life.

If you know Jesus as you’ve received His free gift of salvation, then you need to remember that He will never leave or forsake you. If you’ve ever felt forsaken, rejected, or abandoned, may you remember what Jesus endured for you as it will likely change your perspective on your own circumstances.

Let all of this sink in for a moment and may you in turn pause in thanksgiving, gratitude, and worship as you reflect on His ultimate sacrifice for you.
