Lean On Jesus
Arbor Phillips
Ready:
“And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness.” Romans 8:26
Set:
The whistle blows. The crowd goes quiet. The cameras pan to one player on the field. The players take a knee. The trainers run out and assess the situation. Everything is quiet. All the crowd cheering and roaring have turned to quiet and somber thoughts begin of what is happening?
Finally, with one hand under the player’s arm and one around the waist, the player and trainer walk off the field together. The arena erupts with applause. The game goes on. We have all witnessed a moment like this. Maybe we have all lived a moment like this.
In our weakest moments where time stands still, Jesus runs to your side, looks at you, smiles, and picks you up. In seasons of suffering, weakness, change, or confusion, it’s important to know that there will always be help running to get you. There will be people surrounding you. People empathizing with you, and people cheering you on. And most importantly, a good Father holding your side, helping you get off the field.
There are countless times in the Bible where Jesus helped people. He went to them, touched them, wept with them, walked with them, sailed with them, and ate with them. He went and did everything with them. And in times when they were weak, he helped them up.
What a beautiful and hopeful truth that is. You go through times of weakness. You are left lying there, thinking, what’s next? And you look around for answers, searching for understanding and for help. And then you picture Jesus running towards you.
In times of weakness or uncertainty, lean on Jesus as He holds you up. Believe that He is always by your side, supporting you when you can longer support yourself.
Go:
1. Has there ever been a time where you have found yourself weak and thinking, what’s next?
2. What does it mean for Jesus to be our strength?
3. How can you trust that Jesus will hold you up?
Workout:
- 2 Corinthians 12:10
- Isaiah 40:29
Overtime:
“God, help me up in moments when I am weak. Give me wisdom and understanding that You will do what You say. Let me seek out Your help first, before anything else. Amen.”
