Buckling The Belt Of TruthSample
THEME: Buckle the belt of truth about the HOLY SPIRIT
One of my mistakes was thinking that the spiritual reality of my death and resurrection with Christ was going to be the key that would give me victory against sin. It doesn’t work that way! The Holy Spirit is what empowers all the truth about our unity with Christ. The Spirit is actually the answer to the prayers we have modeled on Days 1 and 2. I do not have space to give a more complete list of the precious truths about our relationship with the Holy Spirit found in today’s readings. Here are just four examples of ways to buckle the belt of truth concerning God’s Spirit:
Romans 8:5-7 Dear Heavenly Father, Paul says here that I can begin to ‘live in accordance’ with the Holy Spirit, and that my ‘mind’ can be ‘governed’ by the Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit, I surrender to You! Help me to ‘set’ my ‘mind’ on what You want.
Romans 8:10-11 O Holy Spirit, I believe that your power raised Christ from death. And I believe that You will use the same power to give me resurrection power to live a new kind of life.
Romans 8:13 Dear Spirit of God, empower me to ‘put to death’ the fleshly ‘misdeeds’ of my body. Please help me to consider myself dead to those sinful desires.
Romans 8:14-17 Dear Holy Spirit, please lead me. Please give me the joy of being a child of God— even though that title is so amazing to me. Please also convince me of your continual presence with me.
There are many other Holy Spirit truths to buckle your belt on with in today’s readings. I would not be surprised if you find that some precious and amazing truth seems to jump off the page today.
About this Plan
Belts work a lot better if they are buckled, don’t they! It is similar with the belt of truth. Vaguely believing that the Bible is true means that you at least have the belt of truth in your belt loops. But is it buckled? The theme of this seven-day study is that one buckles the belt of truth by fully believing the amazing things God says about YOU.
