Chasing Truth™: Read the Bible Cover to CoverSample
Seeing Clearly
The Book of Proverbs is filled with truths, warnings, and instructions for how to live a wise and godly life. The first nine chapters of Proverbs call us to pursue wisdom as a lifestyle. The author (Solomon) tells his son to treasure his commands and keep them because they bring life. He says to guard them like he would the very pupil of his eye (Proverbs 7:1-3, CSB).
The analogy of protecting the pupil of the eye is easy to understand. I protect my eyes carefully because the slightest bit of lint or dust hurts and irritates my tender eye, causing tears to flow if the irritant isn’t immediately removed. If I damage my eye, my ability to see may be impaired. Isn’t that true in the Spirit as well?
King Solomon was teaching his son a life principle. Through this verse in Proverbs, our Father is saying to us, “Obey Me. Treasure every command and instruction I give you, because they will bring life. Guard them. Don’t let anyone or anything snatch them away from you. Protect them like you protect your eyes, so you can see clearly.”
God wants us to understand that He never issues commands or boundaries arbitrarily. There is always a vital purpose in what He instructs us to do. We must view God’s commands and instructions to us as protection from evil and an invitation to the right life; a life filled with wisdom and peace as we follow God’s will. Our lives will be blessed if we choose to obey.
Do you have trouble obeying at times? Do you need to align something right now in your life to God’s will and His ways? Confess it. Ask Him for help to walk in wisdom. You’ll never regret it.
