DAY 40 OF 366

Spotless

Spotless . . . that’s how I love the house to look. I love it when everything is clean and in its place. My house feels complete and beautiful. Previously, that desire drove me to exhaustion and frustration (and, as my family members might argue, to the verge of insanity) . . . always striving to make it “just right.” I wish I could say this was limited to house cleaning, but a need for perfection spilled over into all the areas of my life.

Fear often ensued because recognizing my own insufficiencies left me feeling unqualified and deeply inadequate. I worked harder to please others, yet felt I could never quite measure up. I was easily capable of finding my own warts and wrinkles, eventually creating a deep void in my life. I needed help, deliverance, and an answer.

I found it in Jesus!—the perfect Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.

Jesus’ sacrifice for us is foreshadowed in this passage of Exodus 12. Annually, the people of Israel needed to offer a spotless lamb as a sacrifice to God. Its blood was put on the doorposts of the houses as a symbol of God exonerating His people. This temporary practice signaled that God himself would one day provide a perfect Lamb—Jesus! His sacrifice alone washes away sin, once and for all. Because He is spotless, our dirty lives are cleansed and we are made right with God.

You and I no longer have to strive for perfection! We are free in Christ to do things well instead. We can reach for His grace and be washed clean.

Do you ever feel bound by a need to be perfect? Take a moment to reflect on the freedom the spotless Lamb of God provides. Enjoy being covered by His love and grace.
