Walking Through a Wilderness
Have you ever felt like you are walking through a wilderness? A time when life feels dry, parched, precarious and twisted? Maybe a relationship has reached a stalemate, or a job seems to be at a dead end. Maybe finances are scarce, or doctors’ reports are worse, not better. Maybe the presence of God seems absent in places you’d hoped He'd be present. There’s a solution and hope—Living Water.
I’ve lived in physical deserts and know the value of water in harsh climates. Little grows without irrigation. Vegetation not hardy enough can die in a real wilderness. We don’t have to live this way spiritually. God has water for us—and in Him it’s not a trickle, it’s a downpour. Stay spiritually alive by going to Him and drinking deeply from His Word.
In John 1, John the Baptist emerges from a physical wilderness spiritually alive—“sent by God” (verse 6, CSB). He came as “ . . . the voice of one crying out in the wilderness” (verse 23). John was pious because he let God be his water in Israel’s spiritual desert. As a result, he pointed to the Water of Life—Jesus.
God has sent the eternal solution for drought—His Word and His Spirit. His Voice takes care of the desert. His Spirit replaces spiritual dryness with living water, formation, miraculous growth, and expansion.
Are you in a spiritual wilderness? Go to Jesus, the Water of Life. Ask Him to speak to you through the water of the Word, baptize or refill you with His Holy Spirit, and give you rivers of living water.
