God Cares about Our Losses

Have you ever felt deep loss? 

Alanna did. She’d suffered much loss the past two years: first her husband, then her dad—and now her son. “I can’t take it anymore!,” she cried out loud as she pounded the pillow and wept. “Why God? Why?” Her words were grief-stricken and angry. “He’s all I had left!” she screamed, “Don’t You care about me?”

Through her tear-streaked face, she reached for her Bible. Her eyes fell on Luke 7. In disbelief, she began to read the story of the widow’s son. “And he said, ‘Young man, I tell you, get up!’ The dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him to his mother” (Luke 7:15, CSB). 

She felt the swellings of bitter thoughts, God must not be real. I’ve never seen this happen in my lifetime. Why didn’t He do this for me? 

Quickly, she sensed the Holy Spirit’s voice, “Your son was dead. I brought him back to life too. He was dead spiritually. I answered your prayers at the darkest point of his old life and resurrected him spiritually. I gave him back to you. He was serving Me when I took him home. His new love and respect were a testimony to all your friends and family.”

A peace came. Her son was gone, but not dead. The resurrection power present in Nain for the biblical widow began to flood her heart! God wants to do the same with any loss you’ve experienced. Ask Him.
