A Peacemakers Seven Day Devotional: Part 2Sample
Scripture
And He said, “Abba, Father, all things are possible for you. Remove this cup from Me. Yet not what I will, but what You will.” (Mark 14:36, ESV)
Thoughts
Jesus prayed to His Father, “… not My will, but what You will.” Jesus, the King of Kings, wanted the cup of crucifixion removed from Him, but He knew He must endure the cross. He knew there would be no Gospel without the cross. In this excruciating moment, His humanity came out and He cried out to God. The cross would be a terrible place. Although He knew His eternal destiny in this moment, He wanted His Father to create a different way, a different possibility. But the key to Jesus’ outcry is where He landed. He didn’t land at, “I’m out of here.” He didn’t land at, “No way.” He landed at, “Not My will, but what You will.” This was a supremely loving place to land.
Application
Do you have an area where God is refining you or taking you to the cross in your life? This can seem overwhelming, just too much. My hope is that in your heart a Christ-like attitude will begin to rise up which says, “Not what I will, but what You will, Lord.” In your relationships, I encourage you to end up here: “Lord, I set my attitudes, my actions, and my words at the foot of Your cross. I come to You in humility. Your will be done.”
Prayer
Lord, my attitude has been stinking, and my actions have been worse. I surrender my actions, words, and thoughts to You. Not my will, but Your will be done in my life…. (Continue praying.)
