The New Testament in 90 DaysSample
Introduction to First John
The author of the books of First, Second, and Third John doesn’t actually identify himself but scholars believe it was John, one of the 12 disciples and a part of Jesus’s “inner circle.” (“We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard…” — 1 John 1:3.)
There is no guarantee as to when it was written but theologians believe it was probably between A.D. 85-90, and more than likely, John was writing from the island of Patmos where he was in exile. John wrote about love throughout this letter. He is reassuring Christians in their faith as well as countering false teachings.
