DAY 5 OF 7

HOW TO ENJOY GOD WHEN I'M FEELING LOSS/GRIEF

Grief. All of us will experience a form of grief at some point in our lives. Maybe you already have, maybe you are grieving as you read this devotion. It could be the death of a loved one, the loss of a relationship, a sudden change in circumstances. That feeling of pain, emptiness, of an uncertain future. During those times, a natural reaction is to ask - where is God? Why is this happening? How can I enjoy God in my grief?

The Bible isn’t silent on grief. Jesus himself experienced it. Our Father in Heaven knows the pain and sorrow associated with grief and has a lot to say about it to help you through it.

He assures us of His presence in the depths of our pain and emotion. The Bible says that God ‘saves those who are crushed in spirit’ (psalm 34:18). He binds up our wounds (Psalm 147:3) and he promises to walk with us in the darkest of valleys (Psalm 23:4). This isn’t a promise that he will take our grief away...but it is a promise that his presence will be with us in our grief. The Father desires for you to come near to Him in your pain and to seek His face in prayer and his word so that we might experience the indescribable peace of his presence. What a joy! The God of the universe, the King of kings, cares for you. He sees you, He knows you, and He is walking with you through your grief. You can rest in His presence and experience the fullness of the blessing that it brings.

Have a read of these scriptures today and press into the God who is Emmanuel, with you. He has not left you, he understands you, and he can empathize with your sufferings. Don’t forget that this devotional is designed to be paired with the podcast series ‘things above’ of the Generation Podcast. So have a listen to episode 5 of the podcast for a deeper discussion on how to enjoy God when I'm feeling loss/grief.
