Beerah was a leader of the Reubenites.</span></span></div><div class="li1"><span class="verse v6" data-usfm="1CH.5.6"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v7" data-usfm="1CH.5.7"><span class="label">7</span><span class="content">Their relatives by clans, listed according to their genealogical records:</span></span></div><div class="li2"><span class="verse v7" data-usfm="1CH.5.7"><span class="content">Jeiel the chief, Zechariah, </span></span><span class="verse v8" data-usfm="1CH.5.8"><span class="label">8</span><span class="content">and Bela son of Azaz, the son of Shema, the son of Joel. They settled in the area from Aroer to Nebo and Baal Meon. </span></span><span class="verse v9" data-usfm="1CH.5.9"><span class="label">9</span><span class="content">To the east they occupied the land up to the edge of the desert that extends to the Euphrates River, because their livestock had increased in Gilead.</span></span></div><div class="pi2"><span class="verse v9" data-usfm="1CH.5.9"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v10" data-usfm="1CH.5.10"><span class="label">10</span><span class="content">During Saul&#8217;s reign they waged war against the Hagrites, who were defeated at their hands; they occupied the dwellings of the Hagrites throughout the entire region east of Gilead.</span></span></div><div class="s1"><span class="heading">Gad</span></div><div class="li1"><span class="verse v10" data-usfm="1CH.5.10"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v11" data-usfm="1CH.5.11"><span class="label">11</span><span class="content">The Gadites lived next to them in Bashan, as far as Salekah:</span></span></div><div class="li2"><span class="verse v11" data-usfm="1CH.5.11"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v12" data-usfm="1CH.5.12"><span class="label">12</span><span class="content">Joel was the chief, Shapham the second, then Janai and Shaphat, in Bashan.</span></span></div><div class="li1"><span class="verse v12" data-usfm="1CH.5.12"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v13" data-usfm="1CH.5.13"><span class="label">13</span><span class="content">Their relatives, by families, were:</span></span></div><div class="li2"><span class="verse v13" data-usfm="1CH.5.13"><span class="content">Michael, Meshullam, Sheba, Jorai, Jakan, Zia and Eber&#8212;seven in all.</span></span></div><div class="li2"><span class="verse v13" data-usfm="1CH.5.13"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v14" data-usfm="1CH.5.14"><span class="label">14</span><span class="content">These were the sons of Abihail son of Huri, the son of Jaroah, the son of Gilead, the son of Michael, the son of Jeshishai, the son of Jahdo, the son of Buz.</span></span></div><div class="li2"><span class="verse v14" data-usfm="1CH.5.14"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v15" data-usfm="1CH.5.15"><span class="label">15</span><span class="content">Ahi son of Abdiel, the son of Guni, was head of their family.</span></span></div><div class="li1"><span class="verse v15" data-usfm="1CH.5.15"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v16" data-usfm="1CH.5.16"><span class="label">16</span><span class="content">The Gadites lived in Gilead, in Bashan and its outlying villages, and on all the pasturelands of Sharon as far as they extended.</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v16" data-usfm="1CH.5.16"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v17" data-usfm="1CH.5.17"><span class="label">17</span><span class="content">All these were entered in the genealogical records during the reigns of Jotham king of Judah and Jeroboam king of Israel.</span></span></div><div class="b"></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v17" data-usfm="1CH.5.17"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v18" data-usfm="1CH.5.18"><span class="label">18</span><span class="content">The Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh had 44,760 men ready for military service&#8212;able-bodied men who could handle shield and sword, who could use a bow, and who were trained for battle. </span></span><span class="verse v19" data-usfm="1CH.5.19"><span class="label">19</span><span class="content">They waged war against the Hagrites, Jetur, Naphish and Nodab. </span></span><span class="verse v20" data-usfm="1CH.5.20"><span class="label">20</span><span class="content">They were helped in fighting them, and God delivered the Hagrites and all their allies into their hands, because they cried out to him during the battle. He answered their prayers, because they trusted in him. </span></span><span class="verse v21" data-usfm="1CH.5.21"><span class="label">21</span><span class="content">They seized the livestock of the Hagrites&#8212;fifty thousand camels, two hundred fifty thousand sheep and two thousand donkeys. They also took one hundred thousand people captive, </span></span><span class="verse v22" data-usfm="1CH.5.22"><span class="label">22</span><span class="content">and many others fell slain, because the battle was God&#8217;s. And they occupied the land until the exile.</span></span></div><div class="s1"><span class="heading">The Half-Tribe of Manasseh</span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v22" data-usfm="1CH.5.22"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v23" data-usfm="1CH.5.23"><span class="label">23</span><span class="content">The people of the half-tribe of Manasseh were numerous; they settled in the land from Bashan to Baal Hermon, that is, to Senir (Mount Hermon).</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v23" data-usfm="1CH.5.23"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v24" data-usfm="1CH.5.24"><span class="label">24</span><span class="content">These were the heads of their families: Epher, Ishi, Eliel, Azriel, Jeremiah, Hodaviah and Jahdiel. They were brave warriors, famous men, and heads of their families. </span></span><span class="verse v25" data-usfm="1CH.5.25"><span class="label">25</span><span class="content">But they were unfaithful to the God of their ancestors and prostituted themselves to the gods of the peoples of the land, whom God had destroyed before them. </span></span><span class="verse v26" data-usfm="1CH.5.26"><span class="label">26</span><span class="content">So the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of Pul king of Assyria (that is, Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria), who took the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh into exile. He took them to Halah, Habor, Hara and the river of Gozan, where they are to this day.</span></span></div>

         <div class="label">1</div><div class="p"><span class="content">  </span><span class="verse v1" data-usfm="1CO.1.1"><span class="label">1</span><span class="content">Paul, called to be an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and our brother Sosthenes,</span></span></div><div class="b"></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v1" data-usfm="1CO.1.1"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v2" data-usfm="1CO.1.2"><span class="label">2</span><span class="content">To the church of God in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be his holy people, together with all those everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ&#8212;their Lord and ours:</span></span></div><div class="b"></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v2" data-usfm="1CO.1.2"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v3" data-usfm="1CO.1.3"><span class="label">3</span><span class="content">Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.</span></span></div><div class="s1"><span class="heading">Thanksgiving</span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v3" data-usfm="1CO.1.3"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v4" data-usfm="1CO.1.4"><span class="label">4</span><span class="content">I always thank my God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus. </span></span><span class="verse v5" data-usfm="1CO.1.5"><span class="label">5</span><span class="content">For in him you have been enriched in every way&#8212;with all kinds of speech and with all knowledge&#8212; </span></span><span class="verse v6" data-usfm="1CO.1.6"><span class="label">6</span><span class="content">God thus confirming our testimony about Christ among you. </span></span><span class="verse v7" data-usfm="1CO.1.7"><span class="label">7</span><span class="content">Therefore you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed. </span></span><span class="verse v8" data-usfm="1CO.1.8"><span class="label">8</span><span class="content">He will also keep you firm to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. </span></span><span class="verse v9" data-usfm="1CO.1.9"><span class="label">9</span><span class="content">God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.</span></span></div><div class="s1"><span class="heading">A Church Divided Over Leaders</span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v9" data-usfm="1CO.1.9"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v10" data-usfm="1CO.1.10"><span class="label">10</span><span class="content">I appeal to you, brothers and sisters,</span><span class="note f"><span class="label">#</span><span class=" body"><span class="fr">1:10 </span><span class="ft">The Greek word for </span><span class="fq">brothers and sisters </span><span class="ft">(<span class="tl">adelphoi</span>) refers here to believers, both men and women, as part of God&#8217;s family; also in verses 11 and 26; and in 2:1; 3:1; 4:6; 6:8; 7:24, 29; 10:1; 11:33; 12:1; 14:6, 20, 26, 39; 15:1, 6, 50, 58; 16:15, 20.</span></span></span><span class="content"> in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought. </span></span><span class="verse v11" data-usfm="1CO.1.11"><span class="label">11</span><span class="content">My brothers and sisters, some from Chloe&#8217;s household have informed me that there are quarrels among you. </span></span><span class="verse v12" data-usfm="1CO.1.12"><span class="label">12</span><span class="content">What I mean is this: One of you says, &#8220;I follow Paul&#8221;; another, &#8220;I follow Apollos&#8221;; another, &#8220;I follow Cephas</span><span class="note f"><span class="label">#</span><span class=" body"><span class="fr">1:12 </span><span class="ft">That is, Peter</span></span></span><span class="content">&#8221;; still another, &#8220;I follow Christ.&#8221;</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v12" data-usfm="1CO.1.12"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v13" data-usfm="1CO.1.13"><span class="label">13</span><span class="content">Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized in the name of Paul? </span></span><span class="verse v14" data-usfm="1CO.1.14"><span class="label">14</span><span class="content">I thank God that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius, </span></span><span class="verse v15" data-usfm="1CO.1.15"><span class="label">15</span><span class="content">so no one can say that you were baptized in my name. </span></span><span class="verse v16" data-usfm="1CO.1.16"><span class="label">16</span><span class="content">(Yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas; beyond that, I don&#8217;t remember if I baptized anyone else.) </span></span><span class="verse v17" data-usfm="1CO.1.17"><span class="label">17</span><span class="content">For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel&#8212;not with wisdom and eloquence, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.</span></span></div><div class="s1"><span class="heading">Christ Crucified Is God&#8217;s Power and Wisdom</span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v17" data-usfm="1CO.1.17"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v18" data-usfm="1CO.1.18"><span class="label">18</span><span class="content">For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. </span></span><span class="verse v19" data-usfm="1CO.1.19"><span class="label">19</span><span class="content">For it is written:</span></span></div><div class="q1"><span class="verse v19" data-usfm="1CO.1.19"><span class="content">&#8220;I will destroy the wisdom of the wise;</span></span></div><div class="q2"><span class="verse v19" data-usfm="1CO.1.19"><span class="content">the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.&#8221;</span><span class="note f"><span class="label">#</span><span class=" body"><span class="fr">1:19 </span><span class="ft">Isaiah 29:14</span></span></span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v19" data-usfm="1CO.1.19"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v20" data-usfm="1CO.1.20"><span class="label">20</span><span class="content">Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? </span></span><span class="verse v21" data-usfm="1CO.1.21"><span class="label">21</span><span class="content">For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. </span></span><span class="verse v22" data-usfm="1CO.1.22"><span class="label">22</span><span class="content">Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom, </span></span><span class="verse v23" data-usfm="1CO.1.23"><span class="label">23</span><span class="content">but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, </span></span><span class="verse v24" data-usfm="1CO.1.24"><span class="label">24</span><span class="content">but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. </span></span><span class="verse v25" data-usfm="1CO.1.25"><span class="label">25</span><span class="content">For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v25" data-usfm="1CO.1.25"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v26" data-usfm="1CO.1.26"><span class="label">26</span><span class="content">Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. </span></span><span class="verse v27" data-usfm="1CO.1.27"><span class="label">27</span><span class="content">But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. </span></span><span class="verse v28" data-usfm="1CO.1.28"><span class="label">28</span><span class="content">God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things&#8212;and the things that are not&#8212;to nullify the things that are, </span></span><span class="verse v29" data-usfm="1CO.1.29"><span class="label">29</span><span class="content">so that no one may boast before him. </span></span><span class="verse v30" data-usfm="1CO.1.30"><span class="label">30</span><span class="content">It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God&#8212;that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. </span></span><span class="verse v31" data-usfm="1CO.1.31"><span class="label">31</span><span class="content">Therefore, as it is written: &#8220;Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.&#8221;</span><span class="note f"><span class="label">#</span><span class=" body"><span class="fr">1:31 </span><span class="ft">Jer. 9:24</span></span></span></span></div>

And I saw a beast coming out of the sea. It had ten horns and seven heads, with ten crowns on its horns, and on each head a blasphemous name. </span></span><span class="verse v2" data-usfm="REV.13.2"><span class="label">2</span><span class="content">The beast I saw resembled a leopard, but had feet like those of a bear and a mouth like that of a lion. The dragon gave the beast his power and his throne and great authority. </span></span><span class="verse v3" data-usfm="REV.13.3"><span class="label">3</span><span class="content">One of the heads of the beast seemed to have had a fatal wound, but the fatal wound had been healed. The whole world was filled with wonder and followed the beast. </span></span><span class="verse v4" data-usfm="REV.13.4"><span class="label">4</span><span class="content">People worshiped the dragon because he had given authority to the beast, and they also worshiped the beast and asked, &#8220;Who is like the beast? It had two horns like a lamb, but it spoke like a dragon. </span></span><span class="verse v12" data-usfm="REV.13.12"><span class="label">12</span><span class="content">It exercised all the authority of the first beast on its behalf, and made the earth and its inhabitants worship the first beast, whose fatal wound had been healed. </span></span><span class="verse v13" data-usfm="REV.13.13"><span class="label">13</span><span class="content">And it performed great signs, even causing fire to come down from heaven to the earth in full view of the people. </span></span><span class="verse v14" data-usfm="REV.13.14"><span class="label">14</span><span class="content">Because of the signs it was given power to perform on behalf of the first beast, it deceived the inhabitants of the earth. It ordered them to set up an image in honor of the beast who was wounded by the sword and yet lived. </span></span><span class="verse v15" data-usfm="REV.13.15"><span class="label">15</span><span class="content">The second beast was given power to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that the image could speak and cause all who refused to worship the image to be killed. </span></span><span class="verse v16" data-usfm="REV.13.16"><span class="label">16</span><span class="content">It also forced all people, great and small, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hands or on their foreheads, </span></span><span class="verse v17" data-usfm="REV.13.17"><span class="label">17</span><span class="content">so that they could not buy or sell unless they had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of its name.</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v17" data-usfm="REV.13.17"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v18" data-usfm="REV.13.18"><span class="label">18</span><span class="content">This calls for wisdom. Let the person who has insight calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man.</span><span class="note f"><span class="label">#</span><span class=" body"><span class="fr">13:18 </span><span class="ft">Or </span><span class="fqa">is humanity&#8217;s number</span></span></span><span class="content"> That number is 666.</span></span></div>
