Confessions Of An Unlikely HousewifeSample
I do a lot of things well. Unfortunately, cooking isn’t one of them.
One evening several years ago, I decided to prepare one of my infamous one-pot wonders for dinner.
I started with some odds and ends I found in the fridge and I threw them in a pot. Next, I walked over to the pantry and found some other stuff that looked interesting and tossed that in, too. Then, I perused the spice rack, grabbed a few jars within easy reach and sprinkled in their contents for a little color. I added water, stirred, simmered and voila! Dinner was served.
All was well until I noticed my son’s reaction when he sat down to sample my creation. His eyes squinted, his mouth contorted, and he looked as if his little stomach was turning in a million knots.
“What’s wrong, son?” I asked.
Peering at me through narrowed eyes he could barely hold open, he asked, “Did you just put some random stuff in here?”
Busted.
I’d hoped to hide the fact that I didn’t exactly know where I was headed with my culinary concoction, but to my shame, I’d been found out by a six-year-old!
Often, we look at God just the way my son looked at me. Utterly bewildered by the array of circumstances He’s allowed in our lives, we wonder, God are you ad-libbing this whole thing? Is the life I’m experiencing just a random series of events or do you have a bigger plan you’re working out? Because if you do, I just don’t see it.
I’ve come to learn that thankfully, God is not some novice in the kitchen, haphazardly adding ingredients into the recipe of your life. Instead, He makes every move concerning you with the ultimate level of precision, intentionality and purpose.
So if you’re feeling out of sorts today, like things are just a big, jumbled mess, take heart in knowing that your Father is in control and developing you with a specific end in mind. Trust that God is using everything you experience to develop skills and character traits you’ll need to thrive at your next level.
