A Different Kind of Love Story

DAY 7 OF 7

Jesus Is Our Anchor

When Jesus rose from the dead, He defeated the darkness. He declared His authority over death and defeated OUR darkness. Since He conquered the darkness, we can too. And it’s not because we’re able to get a grip on darkness and figure it out. No, it’s because God has a grip on us.

We live in a world where not everything is as it should be. But the one thing that remains strong and steady is the love of God. When you’re going through darkness—darkness of any sort— just remember that nothing separates you from the God who loves you. God being with us doesn’t mean the pain isn’t with us. God and pain can and do exist in the same scenarios. Still, God is always with you—present in the middle of your mess, your pain, and your darkness.

The Christians in Rome had the same question back then that we have today: Where is God when terrible things happen? And the answer is the same now as it was then. You can’t be separated from Him. So you can face whatever happens.

This doesn’t answer all our questions or guarantee an easier life. In fact, the Roman emperor eventually took Paul’s life. But even as he died, Paul held on to this anchor. Even when he felt devastated, he never felt hopeless. Because he knew God was beside him every step of the way.

I wish I could tell you that I haven’t struggled a single day since surrendering my eating disorder to God. But that wouldn’t be true. There’s no quick or easy answer when you’re dealing with tough or tragic times. But that doesn’t mean there’s no hope—you have an anchor.

The truth I anchored in myself is one of the simplest, most basic principles of the Christian faith: nothing can separate me from the God who loves me.

When we get this—when we wallow in the miraculous nature of His unconditional love—then and only then can we experience the kind of love we’ve been searching for our whole lives.

It’s only when we trust in the unfailing, unchanging, unyielding love of our heavenly Father that we can trust, like, and love His creation—ourselves.

It’s a different kind of love story. It’s the love story. And nothing can separate you from it.

Prayer: Father, show me how your love can become my life’s steady and sure anchor. Thank You that You will. In Jesus’s Name, Amen.

Day 6

About this Plan

A Different Kind of Love Story

Here is a simple message for anyone who struggles with identity: give up your need to control how other people see you. Walking through her narrative involving betrayal and pain, Landra Young Hughes discovered life free from self-obsession and self-resentment. She began to hear God’s voice over her own. Within His Word, she found freedom from the cycle of shame and the love and acceptance she had been searching for.
