Paul urges the Galatians to bear one another’s burdens and to rejoice only about the things that the Lord has done for them. Many believers tend to tolerate and make excuses for our own failings and mistakes, while criticizing and condemning others’ mistakes. If this is done often enough, we become hardened and blind to our desperate need for God. Believers must have compassion for each other while examining ourselves daily, so that we remain humble and acutely aware of our serious need for a Savior.

Are you making your life the standard for people to follow or are you encouraging people, both believers and nonbelievers, to follow Jesus’ life as the standard to look towards?

Father God, You are my holy and righteous Judge. Cleanse my heart so that I may have an accurate and honest assessment of myself. Lord, remove the spirit of criticism, backbiting, fault-finding, and condemnation from my heart. Lord, when You see me developing a judgmental or condemning attitude, immediately bring my transgressions to mind so that I will turn to You for cleansing and restoration. Lord, when I am called to address and correct, help me to do so with compassion, grace, and mercy, and in a spirit of love. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
