Definition: Courage

Webster's Dictionary: Mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear or difficulty.

In this day and age, it truly takes courage to accept and be who you are. A modern-day phrase would be to 'live your truth', meaning, to be who God created you to be.  

Sadly, many of us are bound by the chains of perceptions and opinions of others, so we alter who we are. For some, this may be covering or dimming your shine because you do not want to cause any waves. For others, it may be suppressing your true feelings, thoughts and ideas due to fear of judgment. But it takes a great deal of strength to be authentically 'You'. After all, embracing who God called us to be aligns us with His plans for our lives. 

The bible has record of many people that chose to be themselves  and the impact that resulted from their decision.

Let's take a look at Solomon. His father, David, was informed by the prophet, Nathan, that his son would be the one to build a temple for the ark of the covenant of the Lord (1st Chronicles 17:3-15). This was a huge under-taking and would need to be fulfilled with precision. At Solomon's level of leadership as King, it was probably easy for him to become distracted with many people in his ear—conveniently known as, advisers. In addition, he was probably reminded quite often about his father's victories.  

Solomon was a novice as a newly appointed as king, but he had the courage to do what God had established for him to do. So, he asked the Lord for wisdom (2nd Chronicles 1:7-12). With God's blessing of wisdom, Solomon successfully completed this endeavor.  

Solomon demonstrated courage by being who God and his father said that he would be and by doing what they said he would do. Despite the fact that he was inexperienced and had a name to live up to, he was faithful to the plan and was bold enough to go against the grain, not asking for defeat over enemies or for a long life. He asked God for virtuous gifts: wisdom and knowledge.

Affirmation: I have the courage to be who God has called me to be.
